Successful Transitions: Giuliana's Story. Military families moving to Hawai'i confront myths about the state's public schools that are allayed by their experiences once here. Jennifer Russo was concerned for her special needs daughter when her family PCS-ed from Virginia, only to find the perfect home for Giuliana at Mokapu Elementary, which is guided by a growth mindset for all students.

Mokapu Elementary's academic and cocurricular programs include: Gifted and Talented, Special Education, Physical Education, Computer Technology, English Language Learners, Student Council, Supplementary Reading, Speech, and blocks for Math Interventions.

The school’s large support staff includes three counselors, a school behavioral health specialist, two Parent Community Network Coordinators and a Transition Center to assist with student and family transition needs. As the home school to all families residing on the Marine Base, Mokapu Elementary is pleased to collaborate with Base Family Support and medical programs through Tripler AMC for students with specialized medical needs. The school's Comprehensive Student Support System ensures all student needs are met in a timely and professional manner.

Mokapu Elementary provides standards-based academic programs while its discipline program supports appropriate student behavior, teacher and student goal setting, student self-motivation and social skills. Edcuators received professional development geared toward rigorous instruction that leads to student engagement. ​

Academic Plan & Financial Plan

Every school develops an Academic Plan as part of collaborative process with its School Community Council, staff and Complex Area. ​The three-year plan provides structure for a school's plans for improvement, achievement and innovation. The companion one-year financial plan outlines anticipated expenditures to realize the vision of the Academic Plan. Both are aligned to the state's 2017-2020 Strategic Plan.
