Highlights from Hawaii's Hour of Code
A look at what some of our schools did as part of Computer Science Education Week (CSED) Dec. 8-14, and global Hour of Code events. More than 40 Hawaii public schools and charter schools participated this year with coding exercises. STORY  

STRIVE HI PROFILE: POMAIKAI ELEMENTARY
A schoolwide Arts Integration program and a strong partnership with the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC), a John F. Kennedy Center Partner in Education, are the keys to success at Pomaikai Elementary School. STORY

Reflecting on our results, we are most proud of the collective efforts of faculty and staff who worked to understand the different state initiatives, and how to use them to strengthen our existing practices. They displayed great attitude and grit. STORY  

IROQUOIS POINT UNVEILS 'OCEANS OF ALOHA'
Anti-bullying, the arts and environmental sustainability converge in an inspirational student-led exhibit on the Ewa Beach campus. Mahalo to the Parent Teacher Association, Re-use Hawaii and school staff for making it possible. STORY  

LIBRARIANS WIN AWARDS FOR GROWING DIGITAL RESOURCES
School Library Journal honored two Hawaii public school librarians: Michelle Colte (Hale Kula El) and Denise Sumida (Pearl Harbor El). Both use technology to promote literacy and community, with a focus on student support and learning. STORY  

WITH EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP, OWNERSHIP, WE MOVE FORWARD
Two leaders of the Department joined a contingent of 27 school and community leaders who visited three school districts. They were reinvigorated in their focus on leadership, and inspired by ground-up ownership of public education. STORY  

SANTA GETS STUDENTS' HOLIDAY WISHES IN SIGN LANGUAGE
A heartwarming story from Hawaii Island, where teacher Angela Nagata organized a special visit for a dozen deaf and hard-of-hearing keiki, modeled from her experience at the Hawaii School for the Deaf and the Blind. STORY  

MAHALO JAMES CAMPBELL CO! $250,000 FOR NINE SCHOOLS
Principals from nine Kapolei and West Oahu were presented checks from $15,000 to $45,000 to fund critical areas for student achievement at the annual Mele and Hula at Lanikuhonua concert. STORY
