8 schools selected for Digital Common Core Pilot
The pilot aims to support schools' implementation of new digital curricula aligned with the Common Core State Standards, which are new learning standards for English language arts and math. STORY  

HAWAII'S RACE GRANT CLEARED OF 'HIGH-RISK' STATUS
The U.S. Department of Education has removed Hawaii's "high-risk" status from the state's Race to the Top grant program. The decision allows Hawaii to continue its reform efforts through September 2014 when the grant ends. STORY  

GET ON BOARD INITIATIVE TO REFORM BUS SERVICE
The Department is rolling out the first phase of its "Get on Board" initiative to reform its public school student bus transportation system. The first phase will serve as many as 1,000 students at 30 schools. STORY  

DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE FOR COMMUNITY
The Department today launched its new website — HawaiiPublicSchools.org
— to better serve parents, students, teachers, staff and the broader public. A new website was a specific target of the Department's Strategic Plan. STORY  

FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE LUNCH POLICY ANNOUNCED
The Department has announced its policy for free and reduced-price meals for children unable to pay the full price of meals served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. STORY
