Out-of-state recruitment job fair schedule

Thank you for your interest in employment with the Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE)

In light of the evolving COVID-19 situation, the HIDOE needs to take additional precautionary steps to ensure the health and well-being of our school communities. All out-of-state travel has been canceled for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Therefore, we regret to inform you that our participation in all job fairs has been canceled

However, we are still continuing to process applications for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year and the one-time, taxable $2,000 relocation bonus for eligible individuals will still be available. Please see below for more information about our priority recruitment areas and relocation bonus criteria.

Hiring priorities

Note: Applicants interested in subject areas or geographic locations other than those listed in the priority areas below are still welcome to apply. Our recruitment priorities for the 2020-2021 school year are as follows:

  1. Special Education (PK-12)

    • All specialties of Special Education are needed, especially in the areas of American Sign Language (ASL) Deaf Education and Auditory-Oral Education

  2. Secondary English, Secondary Mathematics, Secondary Science

  3. Interest in teaching in hard-to-staff locations

    • Hawaii District: Honokaa, Kau, Keaau, Kealakehe, Kohala, Konawaena, and Pahoa complexes on the island of Hawaii

    • Honolulu District: Hawaii School for the Deaf & the Blind on the island of Oahu

    • Leeward District: Nanakuli and Waianae complexes on the island of Oahu

    • Maui District: Hana and Lahainaluna complexes on the island of Maui, Island of Lanai, and Island of Molokai

    • Windward District: Olomana School on the island of Oahu

  4. Hawaiian Language Immersion

  5. English Learner/Teaching English as a Second Language

Relocation Bonus Information for the 2020-21 school year.

We are pleased to announce that we have secured limited funding to provide a one-time, taxable $2,000 relocation bonus for eligible individuals who are recruited from out-of-state and hired for the upcoming 2020-21 school year.

All of the following criteria must be met in order to be eligible for the relocation bonus:
  • Relocated from out-of-state;
  • Recruited from out-of-state with a “Current” out-of-state mailing address at the time of job offer and acceptance;
  • Completed a State Approved Teacher Preparation Program prior to relocation and effective date of employment;
  • Contracted in a teacher, counselor, or librarian position for school year 2020-2021;
  • Newly hired employee or re-employed following a break in service of at least two years from last termination date of employment.
The payout of the relocation bonus will be dependent upon the qualifying individual’s effective date of employment.
