The Hawaii State Department of Education released online data for its remaining strategic goals. The department's Strategic Plan Dynamic Report is an online resource that allows the public to view data across performance indicators identified in the 2017-2020 Strategic Plan.

The Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) today released online data for its remaining strategic goals. HIDOE’s Strategic Plan Dynamic Report is an online resource that allows the public to view data across performance indicators identified in the 2017-2020 Strategic Plan.

“It is a valuable tool for education stakeholders – from our teachers to community partners to see where they fit into the Strategic Plan and how they can support our students based on the data that’s now easily accessible online,” said Superintendent Dr. Christina Kishimoto.

Data for all indicators are available here: http://bit.ly/HIDOE-SPDR. Strategic Plan Goal 2 Indicators include Teacher Positions Filled and Teacher Retention, and Goal 3 Indicators include Repair & Maintenance Backlog and Family Engagement.

The data report update was presented at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting, which includes:

 SY 2017 BaselineSY 2018 ResultsChange2020 Target
Teacher Positions Filled (Goal 2)93%92%-196%
SPED Teacher Positions Filled (Goal 2)86%86%0-
5-Year Teacher Retention (Goal 2)52%54%+260%
Repair & Maintenance Backlog (Goal 3)$279M$293M+$14M$239M

The 2017-20 Strategic Plan was adopted by the BOE in December 2016. It is the guiding document for public education in Hawaii with three overarching goals: Student Success, Staff Success, and Successful Systems of Support.

The creation of the Dynamic Report was driven by Goal 3, Objective 3b from the Strategic Plan, to “Provide timely and user-friendly data to support strategic decision-making and accountability for Student Success.” Data being shared is generated from the Strive HI Performance System.

“The department’s various offices came together to complete this in-house, which ultimately saved the state a substantial amount of money that would’ve been spent outsourcing a project of this magnitude,” noted Superintendent Dr. Kishimoto. “I’m proud of the work that was done.”
