HONOLULU - The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Tuesday presented Mililani Uka Elementary School an award for outstanding safety records at the 14th annual Governor’s Pacific Rim Safety and Health Conference.
The school was recognized for its efforts to make workplace safety a priority and establishing “Safety First” and “Always Be Careful” mottos that are shared by all students and staff.
“Our school safety committee works to foster safety throughout out school community,”said Mililani Uka Elementary School Principal Heather Wilhelm. “All of us play a role in making safety our top priority on our campus.”
More than 700 people make up the Mililani Uka Elementary school community. The school implements a number of safety practices, revises safety procedures as appropriate and vigilantly responds to safety hazards as they occur.
“I want to commend Principal Wilhelm and her staff for being an example of what we strive to do at all of our schools,” Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi said. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication to ensure a safe learning and work environment.
ASSE awards companies in three different categories, Construction Industry, Maritime Industry, and General Industry, for having the most outstanding safety records. Mililani Uka Elementary won the medium size category for General Industry and had the highest score among the nine awardees.
