About this school
Honowai Elementary is a 2018 Green Ribbon School, selected for its innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education.
Honowai Elementary implements a balanced English language arts curriculum and the Everyday Mathematics program. Reading, writing and mathematics have been strengthened through strategies, training and programs including Singapore Math.
The infusion of technology and a variety of diagnostic and tutorial supplemental online programs provide students with opportunities to strengthen and apply 21st century skills using relevant multimedia equipment. Interactive whiteboards are used in every classroom and laptops, iPods and iPads are available in many classes.
Student programs include: Junior Police Officer, intramural sports, gifted-talented/enrichment, robotics, English language Learner Newcomer Center, student newspaper, supplemental afterschool tutoring, math club, visual media, and Read Aloud Program.
Parents also participate in a Parent Math Club that meets twice a month and monthly Family Fun Nights coordinated by the Parent Community Networking Coordinator.
