Keaukaha Elementary

About this school

Keaukaha continues to emphasize the importance of learning. For English language arts, Reading Wonders is the core program used in grades K-6, with the addition of ECRI in grades k-2. For math, Keaukaha utilizes Stepping Stones in grades K-5 and Go Math in grade 6. The school continues to work on curriculum development and grade-level coherence for science, social studies, and writing. In addition, teachers and students have access to computer-based instructional programs that include i-Ready, Achieve 3000, Smarty Ants, BrainPop, and IXL.

KES is a 1:1 school with every student having access to an iPad or a Chromebook. A computer lab with 25 iMacs exists where students in grades 1-6 have keyboarding classes. In addition, students attend other resource classes such as PE, library, Mala, guidance, and ‘Ike Hawai’i. Together, all of this provides a well-rounded educational environment for students.

The seven priority areas – Academic Review Team (ART), Common Core State Standards, Educator Effectiveness System, Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS), Data Teams/Formative Instruction, STEAM, and Induction and Mentoring – continue to be implemented school-wide. The ART, which is comprised of eight (8) certificated teachers, a school SASA, and principal, is a leadership team which meets weekly and are responsible to oversee the successful implementation of these initiatives and the overall academic progress of the school.
