About this school
Lanai High & Elementary provides an open and welcoming learning environment and serves as a gathering place for students, faculty, support staff and the community.
The school operates on a modified year-round schedule. Elementary students in grades K-2 are taught in self-contained classes. Students in grades 3-4 receive instruction from two teachers, one for language arts and social studies and the other for mathematics and science. The program for grades 6-8 includes exploratory and advisory activities in addition to required core and elective classes. High school students attend three 85-minute classes per day.
The secondary schedule allows students to meet with instructors every other school day for a double period. The longer classes allow teachers to incorporate direct instruction with hands-on application, individualized help, independent research, cooperative learning activities, group work and enrichment opportunities.
The school offers honors and advanced placement language arts classes, online learning options, an off campus work study program and opportunities to attend classes at the University of Hawaii Maui campus on Lanai. The following sports are available for boys and girls: basketball, volleyball, baseball/softball, paddling, tennis, wrestling, cross country, golf and cheerleading.
