About this school
Pū'ōhala Elementary focuses on standards-based teaching and learning with an emphasis on math, reading and science.
A strong English program is complemented by a Hawaiian language immersion program where all subjects are standards-based and taught in the Hawaiian language for the entire school day. English is introduced into the immersion program at grade 5, allowing immersion students to be bilingual when they complete grade 6.
Pū'ōhala El added grade 7 Hawaiian immersion in 2018-19, and will add grade 8 Hawaiian immersion in 2019-20. English medium students will continue to be served by King Intermediate.
Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate supports literacy through The Literacy Instruction and Support Division that focuses on developing writing skills for K-3 students through art, music and cultural awareness. A College for Every Student program available for students in grades 4-6 provides mentoring, goal setting and college visitations to raise college awareness.
