About this school
Waiākea High is organized into five smaller learning community academies. All students are enrolled in the freshmen academy in grade 9, prior to choosing one of four career-themed academies in grade 10. These academies are: health, public services, business engineering science & technology, sustainability through traditions, and arts & recreation.
Professional development occurs throughout the year to increase the efficiency at the school, with an emphasis on instructional practices, personalization and college-and-career strategies. Special education students in core classes are taught in regular classrooms through co-teaching and differentiated instruction.
The school uses Advancement Via Individual Determination strategies to promote a college-going culture.
