Waiākea Intermediate's goal is to continuously improve reading and math proficiency among its students. The school maximizes professional development opportunities for the faculty and staff to raise student achievement, and provides targeted supports to students in need of additional instruction.

Students have demonstrated outstanding achievements in Math Counts, Science Fair, Vex and Botball robotics teams, History Day Competition, Geography Bee. Waiakea High also offers Concert Band and Ukulele Band.
