Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate's core academic plan focuses on quality instruction, differentiation, teaching programs with fidelity, maximized instructional time, professional development and data analysis.

In grade 4-8, the school implements Advancement Via Individual Determination strategies to promote a college-going culture. An intensive program proven to improve the writing skills of students is available thanks to a partnership with the University of Hawaii. Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate also provides the afterschool UPLINK program for middle school students.
