About this school
Waimea Elementary is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive, standards-based education. The school collaborates with Waimea Elementary School’s administrative team and the West Hawaii District Office to implemented changes in instruction that continue to target specific student needs.
The “Walk to Read” instructional reading program in grades 1 through 5 allows students to work in reading groups based on reading levels. Reading groups are adjusted based on regular assessment data in order to ensure that students are progressing.
In grades 1 one through 5, teachers specialize in math or science/social studies. The purpose of the science/social studies specialist is to target science and social studies content instruction and to provide more authentic informational text reading for the students. The school allots an additional 30-minute math skills block taught by all teachers.
