About this school
Students at Waimea High School are able to take courses in one of five pathways: Public & Human Services, Health, Arts & Communication, Industrial/Engineering/ Technology, and Natural Resources. Each pathway is supported by strong partnerships with local business and community mentors. Waimea High is also a Future Ready Pathway School and over the last three years has equipped all core and elective classes with mobile Chromebook or iPad carts. Teacher professional development has focused heavily on technology integration across content and grade level as well as place-based project learning. To support our incoming freshmen, we continued our Summer Bridge program for the third year and have introduced AVID and integrated ELA and math workshop classes paired with the core. Each 9th grader takes a Humanities and a Design Thinking IET Core class where they’re taught how to think critically and innovatively, like future engineers. Our Early College program has expanded and many of our seniors will graduate with 23+ college credits earned tuition-free, on our campus. Finally, we have established a partnership program with Department of Vocational Rehabilitation to establish the Kina‘ole Workforce Academy, where our special needs students are working and earning at the Waimea Cottages in all areas of hotel operation and at other local retail establishments on the Westside.
