STUDENT SUCCESS INDICATOR

Academic Achievement: Percentage of students meeting achievement targets on statewide assessments in Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science.

Rationale: While the Strategic Plan emphasizes well-rounded education in a variety of subjects and which reflects the interdisciplinary nature of education, our summative assessments are aligned with requirements in federal law to measure progress toward post-secondary readiness in these important core subjects, as well as to provide an equity check that underserved student subgroups aren't being left behind. These assessments are:

  • Language Arts and Mathematics: Smarter Balanced or KĀ‘EO (for students in the Hawaiian Language Immersion Program), assessed of all students in grades 3-8 and 11, and
  • Science: Hawaii State Assessment, assessed of all students in grades 4 and 8, and the Biology I End of Course Exam in high school
