Energy efficient strategies to cool schools advance
HIDOE has been working to fast track heat-relief initiatives through its Heat Abatement Program. During the last three years, schools across the state were evaluated for various cooling options including AC, ceiling fans, nighttime heat flushing fans, solar light, trees, heat reflective paint, and more. STORY  

SOLOMON EL BREAKS GROUND ON CAMPUS-WIDE RENOVATION
The project will construct four new classroom buildings, a new playfield and new parking areas that will transform the existing campus and provide modern facilities designed to serve 1,100 students. STORY  

HIDOE ADDRESSES GROWING TECH NEEDS THROUGH IT INITIATIVE
After seven years of progress toward upgrading its technology infrastructure, HIDOE opened its second data center at Hoʻokele Elementary. HIDOE has been recognized as the top district for K-12 broadband connectivity in the country. STORY  

TRANSITION CENTERS INITIATIVE NAMED FOR REP. MARK TAKAI
In partnership with Hawaii 3Rs and the Military Affairs Council, HIDOE announced an effort to develop high-quality transition centers in honor of late Congressman K. Mark Takai, a staunch advocate for Hawaii’s students. STORY  

SUPT. MATAYOSHI CELEBRATES NATIONAL INNOVATION AWARD
The Education Commission of the States presented HIDOE with the 2017 Newman Award for State Innovation at its National Forum in San Diego. Kathryn Matayoshi was on hand to receive the award, coinciding with the end of her tenure. STORY  

ROOSEVELT'S ABE INDUCTED INTO LEGION OF HONOR
​Roosevelt High's Director of Music Gregg Abe has been inducted into the prestigious Bandworld Legion of Honor. He is the eighth band director from Hawaii to receive the award since its inception in 1989. STORY
