HAWAI'I DOE RECEIVES NATIONAL INNOVATION AWARD
​The Frank Newman Award for State Innovation was conferred by the Education Commission of the States for improvement efforts that hold valuable lessons for other states, as well as bold, courageous policies. LEARN MORE  


FINAL PHASE OF STUDENT TRANSPORTATION REFORMS LAUNCHED
With the awarding of contracts on Maui and Kaua'i, the Get on Board initiative is completed; it streamlined processes and upgraded technology while reducing overall costs by more than $13 million annually. LEARN MORE  


MAUNAKEA SCHOLARS PROGRAM FORMALIZED
The collaborative agreement between the Hawai'i DOE, the University of Hawai'i's Institute for Astronomy, and the Canada-France-Hawai'i Telescope, will develop more opportunities for local high school students to use observatories. LEARN MORE  


DESIGN UNVEILED FOR HAWAI'I'S FIRST VERTICAL SCHOOL
The Hawai'i DOE and Alaka‘i Development revealed the design for the school at 690 Pohukaina Street in Kaka'ako. The elementary school will be part of a mixed-income, mixed-use development that also features rentals and retail. LEARN MORE  


NEW HOME FOR WAI'ANAE HIGH'S SEARIDER PRODUCTIONS
​The facility will be built thanks in part to $10.7 million from the legislature. The 8,500-square-foot facility will include a lobby, "makery space," classrooms, and a flexible multi-purpose open courtyard. LEARN MORE  


BOARD OF EDUCATION NAMES INTERIM LEADERSHIP
Keith Hayashi will serve as interim superintendent and Amy Kunz as interim deputy superintendent until Dr. Christina Kishimoto begins her term as superintendent on August 1. Supt. Kathryn Matayoshi's term ends June 30. LEARN MORE  


63 SCHOOLS OFFERING FREE MEALS TO CHILDREN IN SUMMER
Seamless Summer Option program provides meals Monday through Friday at public schools around the state free of charge to all children 18 years and under. Most serve breakfast and lunch. LEARN MORE
