3 public schools heading to nationals
Maui, Mililani and Waipahu high schools are preparing for national competitions on the mainland this spring after their triumphs at statewide contests. STORY  

BOE SETS FIRM SUPPORT OF HAWAIIAN EDUCATION
The Board spent nearly one year working with stakeholders to craft policy revisions aimed at advancing Hawaiian language, culture and history in Hawaii's public schools. STORY  

KALAHEO HIGH JOINS NATIONAL MATH & SCIENCE INITIATIVE
A national program aimed at college-and career-readiness kicked off another phase at Kalaheo High School. The NMSI encourages high school students to enroll in Advanced Placement classes and take AP exams. STORY  

DOE REPORTS ON SCHOOL YEAR AND INSTRUCTIONAL TIME
The amended Hawaii Revised Statutes 302A-251 calls for schools to meet 990 hours of "student learning time" per school year, increasing to 1080 hours and 1146 hours in successive years. STORY
