In the February 2024 report to the Board of Education (BOE), Superintendent Keith Hayashi and Deputy Superintendent Tammi Oyadamori-Chun shared progress on the State of Hawai’i Public Education 2023-2029 Strategic Plan. In the year since the Board passed its six-year strategic plan, Superintendent Hayashi reported, progress has been made on the action items as follows: 97 action items are in progress, 10 are in planning, four are launching soon and four have been completed.
Superintendent Hayashi also shared updates from West Maui, including progress on the King Kamehameha III Elementary temporary campus, free school meals for students at six Maui schools, and celebrated members of the Lahainaluna football team who got to serve as honorary coin toss captains at Super Bowl LVIII.
The report also highlighted the 2024 Hawai‘i School Counselor of the Year, 2024 Hawai'i LifeSmart State Champions from Kalani High School and congratulated the 21 teachers statewide who earned their National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification. The report concluded with praise for all the student winners of the 2024 HIKI NŌ on PBS Hawaiʻi Winter Challenge.
