In the November 2023 report to the Board of Education (BOE), Deputy Superintendent Tammi Oyadomari-Chun shared updates regarding the reopening of Lāhainā schools, and HIDOE schools and employees who have been recognized with statewide and national awards.

Deputy Oyadomari-Chun provided updates on the monitoring of health and safety for Lāhainā schools, construction of the temporary site for King Kamehameha III Elementary, community contributions and student enrollment figures. 

Students and staff members spoke about their experiences being back on campus, including Princess Nāhiʻenaʻena Elementary Principal Gary Kanamori and Curriculum Coordinator Kaleka Manoha, and Lāhaināluna High School seniors Mikaila Acosta and Lavinia Tuavao-Tupou.

The following recognitions were also shared: Workforce Development Council Workforce Hero lifetime award, 2023-24 International Technology and Engineering Educators Association Teacher Excellence Award, National Center for School Mental Health 2023 School Mental Health Champion Award, and 2023 College Board AP School Honor Roll.
