The 2015-16 Official School Calendar was approved by the Board of Education on Dec. 2, 2014. As mandated by the "Reinventing Education Act of 2004," it applies to all schools except those on multi-track schedules and charter schools. The calendar will follow a 1-3-1 yearround model with a one-week fall break between the first and second quarters, a three-week winter break separating the first and second semesters, and a two-week spring break between the third and fourth quarters.
- Teacher work year: July 23, 2015 through May 27, 2016.
- Student instructional year: July 29, 2015 through May 26, 2016.
(Please check with your school to confirm the first day of school for students).
To maximize instructional time, the Department of Education since 1991 has defined the earliest date for commencement exercises as "the first weekend preceding the last day of school for students." Therefore, commencement exercises for the Class of 2016 may be scheduled no sooner than Friday, May 20, 2016.
Calendars for upcoming school years are usually finalized and posted on this website in February.
