Waikiki Elementary's vision is to nurture and practice thinking, collaboration and thoughtfulness.
The school offers such programs as Philosophy for Children, creative movement and dance, Hawaiian studies, computer, peer mediation, drama, reading improvement to support emergent readers and afterschool enrichment academies. Flourishing partnerships with the Master of Education in Teaching program and the Philosophy Department at the University of Hawaii provide exceptional opportunities for professional growth supportive of student achievement.
Waikiki Elementary's emphasis on developing thinking skills and promoting mindful behaviors has not only resulted in enhanced student performance, but has led to the emergence of students with a strong sense of civic responsibility. The school has a strong School Community Council and regularly involves all factions of the school community in essential decision making.
Academic Plan & Financial Plan
Every school develops an Academic Plan as part of collaborative process with its School Community Council, staff and Complex Area. The three-year plan provides structure for a school's plans for improvement, achievement and innovation. The companion one-year financial plan outlines anticipated expenditures to realize the vision of the Academic Plan. Both are aligned to the state's
2017-2020 Strategic Plan.
