ESSA public review

The Board of Education approved the public comment process on the draft of Hawaii's Consolidated State Plan for federal funding under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) at its April 18, 2017 meeting. A 30-day public comment period is now open where you can review the executive summary and full draft plan, and provide feedback. The narrated presentation above provides an overview of the ESSA timeline, process, and plan.

Strive HI 3.0

The ESSA plan impacts school accountability systems, but there is more to Hawaii's proposed updates to its accountability system (Strive HI) than just federal requirements. Much of it is driven by the updated Strategic Plan. In conjunction with the public comment period on the ESSA draft plan, we're opening a public comment period on the proposed Strive HI 3.0 system, which was presented to the Board on April 4, 2017.
